Notes on the light
Olowalu Plantation House sits on the West Maui coast, a plantation-style property with mountain views on one side and ocean views on the other. The grounds are genuinely lush, banana leaves and ti plants crowding the walkways, and the light in the last hour before sunset is some of the most dramatic we film anywhere.
The spaces, and how they film
The Plantation House. A white plantation-style house with a wraparound porch anchors the property, classic island architecture that photographs and films beautifully against the tropical grounds.
The Grounds at Sunset. Open lawn facing the water gives portraits an unobstructed view of the sky turning color, which is the single best reason to plan a ceremony here for late afternoon.
The film, so far
We have made one film here so far: Bobby & Agnes, a wedding party walk through the tropical grounds followed by portraits shot right into a Maui sunset.
Filming here
Hawaii light changes fast right at sunset, more dramatically than most mainland ceremony sites. We plan the final portrait window carefully around local sunset time, since that ten to fifteen minutes of color is genuinely some of the best light we film anywhere, on the mainland or off it.
