Venues we know by heart.
Getting married at one of these? We already know where the light will be. A filmmaker's note on the venues we film.

Hummingbird Nest Ranch
Santa Susana, CaliforniaThe 1920s Spanish estate does the work for us before we lift a camera. We shoot the olive groves in the last hour of hilltop light, when the leaves go silver and the whole valley behind the ridgeline softens into haze. Bougainvillea against the white stucco reads deep and saturated on film, and the arched interiors hold shadow beautifully, so the getting-ready rooms carry a quiet weight that no amount of production design can fake.

Hotel Casa Del Mar
Santa Monica, CaliforniaThis 1926 Santa Monica landmark films like a different era, and we lean into that. Ceremonies on the sand let us shoot into clean ocean light, backs to the water, faces open and lit. Inside, the grand staircase is our anchor, a slow descent framed against gold and marble that gives a film its centerpiece. The beachfront glow off the Pacific wraps everyone in a soft, forgiving key that flatters skin and holds detail from noon through sunset.

Ojai Valley Inn
Ojai, CaliforniaOjai gives us the warmest inland light in California, and we plan the whole day around its pink moment, the few minutes after sunset when the Topa Topa bluffs flush rose and the sky answers back. The old oaks throw long, textured shadow that reads gorgeously on a wide lens, and the golden hour here runs longer and richer than on the coast. It is a valley that films quiet and unhurried, which is exactly how the best weddings feel.

San Jose Del Cabo
San Jose Del Cabo, MexicoCabo is desert meeting sea, and the drama is built in, from the black rock coastline to the sharp line where the Sea of Cortez turns from turquoise to deep blue. The midday sun is intense, so we shape it, working shade, sheer fabric, and the golden window at either end of the day to keep skin luminous rather than blown out. Handled right, that hard light becomes an asset, giving the footage a bright, high-contrast clarity you cannot find at home.

Sarasota, Florida
Sarasota, FloridaThe Gulf coast films soft. Humidity in the air diffuses the light into something gentle and even, so faces glow without harsh edges and the afternoons take on a warm, pastel weight. We shoot the waterfront at the end of the day, when the flat Gulf catches a wash of peach and lavender and the whole frame quiets down. It is a forgiving light that makes a wedding film feel intimate and unhurried, the way a Florida evening actually moves.

Vibiana
Los Angeles, CaliforniaVibiana is a former 1876 cathedral in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, and it films like a set a century in the making. The old nave holds candlelight and shadow with real gravity, and the arched windows throw long afternoon light straight down the aisle. When the night moves out to the courtyard, the city becomes the backdrop. It is one of the most cinematic rooms in Los Angeles, and one of our favorites to shoot.
