Notes on the light

Villa Montalvo is a Mediterranean-revival villa built in 1912 in the hills above Saratoga, now home to the Montalvo Arts Center. Formal gardens and cypress-lined walks surround the house, and the building itself carries a genuine architectural weight that few Bay Area venues can match.

The spaces, and how they film

The Loggia. An arched walkway along the villa's front facade gives a ceremony real architectural presence, columns and white drape doing most of the visual work without needing much additional structure.

The Formal Gardens. Manicured hedges and cypress trees surround the property, giving portraits a classical, European feel distinct from most California wedding venues.

The film, so far

We have made one film here so far: Antonio & Nika, a ceremony beneath the loggia followed by a reception that carried the day's formality straight through the evening.

Filming here

Because the villa and gardens are genuinely historic rather than purpose-built for weddings, we treat the architecture as the star and keep additional florals and structure minimal. The loggia and gardens do not need much dressing to look extraordinary on camera.

Questions, answered

Have you filmed a wedding at Villa Montalvo before?

Yes. Antonio and Nika's wedding film was made there, beneath the villa's loggia, and you can watch it on this page.

Is Villa Montalvo part of the Montalvo Arts Center?

Yes, the historic villa and grounds are part of the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, and weddings are held on the estate grounds.

Do you travel to the Bay Area for weddings?

Yes. While we are based in Los Angeles, we travel throughout California for weddings, and we're happy to talk through travel details for your date.

What makes Villa Montalvo different from a typical estate venue?

Its age and formality. The villa was built in 1912 and carries real architectural history, which gives a wedding here a more classical, European character than most California properties.

Planning notes, and a wide price gap

Checked July 2026

Montalvo quotes bespoke rather than from a rate card, and the published estimates for it disagree more sharply than for any other venue on this site. We are showing you the gap rather than pretending it is not there.

The price disagreement
One marketplace puts a ceremony and reception between seventeen and twenty thousand. A 2025 planning guide puts a Friday to Sunday booking at thirty-eight thousand and up. Both cannot describe the same wedding, and the arts center quotes on guest count, date and which spaces you use. Get your own number before you compare it to anything.
Nine hours, inclusive
The nine hour window quoted includes setup and breakdown. Nearly every other venue here quotes hours with setup outside them, so nine here is not nine elsewhere. The two sources that disagree on price disagree on this too: the higher one describes ten hours, noon to ten.
The spaces
The Oval Garden seats two hundred and fifty. The West Lawn Garden takes three hundred to three hundred and fifty. The side veranda holds one hundred and thirty and is the wet weather answer.
The Great Lawn
Outdoor dining for up to three hundred in the warmer months, with the veranda sweeping around the villa above it.
Also on the grounds
The Spanish Courtyard and the Love Temple, both usable for ceremonies. For a property of this size the walk between spaces is short, which is not always true of estates this grand.
How late
Not published. This is an arts center in a residential part of Saratoga with a working performance calendar, so confirm both your end time and what else is programmed on your date.
What a wet weather plan means
The gap between three hundred and fifty outdoors and one hundred and thirty on the veranda is the largest we deal with anywhere. If rain moves your day inside, most of your guest list is standing. We plan two ceremony coverages here rather than one, because the veranda version is a completely different film to the West Lawn version and there is no time to work it out on the morning.

Capacities and the nine hour inclusive window are from marketplace listings for Villa Montalvo at Montalvo Arts Center, read July 2026. The two pricing figures come from different sources that disagree substantially and are shown as a range of published claims rather than a quote. Montalvo prices each wedding individually. Confirm everything with their events team.
