Notes on filming Irvine

Rayne Wedding Films is based in Irvine, so a wedding here is close to home. We scout every new venue before the wedding day, and from here that visit is a short drive rather than a trip.

Irvine also sits inland, and that can change the weather a wedding gets. A June morning that is flat and gray at the beach can be clean and bright a few miles in, which is worth knowing if your ceremony is early in the day.

Open ground is close, too. Andrew and Kendal's portraits were made a very short drive from Mariners Church, in tall grasses and an hour of low sun after the ceremony.

Mariners Church

Our Irvine film so far is Andrew and Kendal's, a Navy wedding at Mariners Church. The sanctuary is a tall timber A-frame with glazing down both roof slopes and a glass gable behind the altar, so the light comes from above and behind the couple rather than through a few side windows. Out front, a broad stone plaza had room for the full sword arch on both sides of the doors.

Two of the church's own rules shape the day. A Saturday ceremony has to begin by half past twelve, and there is no reception on the campus. So a Mariners wedding is always two locations, and the portraits that want warm, low light happen somewhere else later in the afternoon. We plan for that from the first call. The full notes, including who may marry there, are on our Mariners Church page, and the story of the day is on Andrew & Kendal's film page.

Celebrating nearby

A Mariners wedding always moves on to a reception somewhere else, and for an Irvine couple the coast is close. Newport Coast is a short drive west, where we have made three films at The Resort at Pelican Hill, and Laguna Beach sits just past it, with two at Montage Laguna Beach. Further south, the courtyard at Serra Plaza in San Juan Capistrano is another we know well.

Each of those cities has a page of its own: Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Dana Point. The wider county, from the beach permits to the summer festival traffic, is in our Orange County notes.

How booking works

The Moment is $6,000, The Portrait is $8,000 and The Legacy is $10,000. Jason films every wedding himself, and The Portrait and The Legacy add a second cinematographer, the full ceremony, every speech, drone footage and a cinematic trailer. With those two, your teaser arrives 7 to 14 days after the wedding, and the full film follows in 8 to 12 weeks. The collections page sets the three side by side, and what a wedding film costs in Orange County has the wider market, tier by tier.
