The whole wedding party wore fresh haku leis over their suits, standing under flowering trees with the Ko'olau mountains rising green and enormous just past the tree line.
It is about as far from a typical mainland ceremony as we get, and the light through the garden canopy gave the whole film a soft, dappled quality that is hard to replicate anywhere else.
On Paliku Gardens.
Paliku Gardens sits on Kualoa Ranch on the windward coast of Oahu, mountains on one side and, further across the property, ocean on the other. The gardens themselves are lush and genuinely tropical, and the ranch's dramatic backdrop is instantly recognizable if you have seen practically any film shot in Hawaii over the last few decades.
