Notes on the light

Paliku Gardens sits on Kualoa Ranch on the windward coast of Oahu, with the Ko'olau mountains rising green and enormous just past the ceremony space. The ranch's dramatic backdrop is instantly recognizable, having appeared in dozens of films over the decades, and it is one of the most cinematic settings we have ever filmed a wedding in.

The spaces, and how they film

The Flowering Garden. Ceremony space set among flowering trees, soft dappled light coming through the canopy, mountains rising directly behind the arch.

The Wider Ranch Grounds. Kualoa Ranch is a working property well beyond the gardens themselves, and portraits taken further out onto the ranch grounds give the film scale that a typical garden venue simply cannot match.

The film, so far

We have made one film here so far: Chris & Bryn, a garden ceremony under flowering trees with the whole wedding party in fresh haku leis.

Filming here

Because the mountains dominate every wide shot here, we plan coverage to keep them in frame as much as possible rather than shooting tight, since that backdrop is the single biggest reason a couple chooses this property over anywhere else on Oahu.

Questions, answered

Have you filmed a wedding at Kualoa Ranch before?

Yes. Chris and Bryn's wedding film was made at Paliku Gardens on the ranch, and you can watch it on this page.

Do you travel to Hawaii for weddings?

We do travel for select destination weddings. Reach out with your date and details and we're happy to talk through what that looks like.

Is Kualoa Ranch only Paliku Gardens?

No, the ranch is a large working property with several distinct event spaces; Paliku Gardens is the one we have filmed at so far.

What makes the mountain backdrop here different from other Hawaii venues?

Scale, mostly. The Ko'olau range rises directly behind the property rather than sitting in the distance, so it dominates the frame in a way few other venues, in Hawaii or anywhere, can match.

Planning notes, and the paperwork

Checked July 2026

Kualoa runs a tight operation, which is what you want from a working ranch that also hosts film crews. The rules are clear, they are enforced, and two of them decide who you are allowed to hire.

Site fee
Around six and a half thousand for a Saturday or Sunday at Pālikū Gardens, and five and a half on a weekday, with a thousand dollar security deposit inside that. An early morning elopement slot starts near fifteen hundred. 2026 rate
The spaces
The Main Lawn and the Bowl Lawn each take two hundred and fifty. The Water Tower Lawn takes two hundred. The covered pavilion seats up to one hundred and twenty.
Included
One hundred and fifty white resin folding chairs. Beyond that number you are renting in, which is a real cost at two hundred and fifty guests.
The hours
Ten in the morning to ten at night, with vendors out by eleven. Generous by the standards of this site, and firm.
Required
A licensed planner or day of coordinator. This is not optional and the ranch will ask. Every vendor must also carry a certificate of insurance.
Drones
Permitted, but the operator has to be licensed and insured and the paperwork has to be filed in advance. A crew turning up on the day expecting to fly will not be flying.
What the drone rule means for us
We file that paperwork weeks ahead rather than on the week of the wedding, because this is one of the few places we film where the aerial is genuinely the shot. The valley walls behind Pālikū are the reason couples fly to Oahu for this, and they only read properly from the air. Ask any videographer you are considering whether they are licensed and insured to fly here specifically, because at this venue an unlicensed operator simply does not get to.

Site fees, lawn capacities, chair count, hours and the planner, insurance and drone requirements are from current Kualoa Ranch wedding guides and marketplace listings, read July 2026. The ranch does not publish a public rate card, and pricing moves by day and season. Confirm your date, your site and the vendor requirements with Kualoa directly.
