01The Day

White walls, ocean air.

Eric and Esther were married at the Casino San Clemente, the white Spanish Colonial landmark that has stood over the beach town since 1937. The morning starts with Eric reading her letter, and the vows happen in the walled courtyard under string lights, the whole garden turned toward them.

Their portraits live in the tall coastal grasses down the hill, and the night ends inside the ballroom with the room lit and the floor full. The film runs six minutes and twenty-four seconds. Watch it with sound.

Notes on the place.

The Casino gives a film three worlds inside one property. From the air it is all white walls, a dome and palms with the San Clemente coastline a few blocks beyond. On the ground the courtyard holds an outdoor ceremony inside real architecture instead of a rented arch, and the ballroom takes over after dark. Very few Orange County venues photograph this differently from morning to midnight.
