Notes on the light
The Ritz-Carlton sits directly on a bluff above the Pacific, and that changes how the whole day films. The ceremony lawn looks straight out at open water with nothing between you and the horizon, so the light is soft and even for most of the afternoon and turns hard gold in the last hour before sunset. We build every ceremony timeline here around that final light, because it is genuinely the best window the property offers.
The spaces, and how they film
The Bluff Lawn. The ceremony space sits right at the edge, ocean on one side and the hotel's Spanish Colonial architecture on the other. It is one of the most dramatic wide shots we get anywhere on the coast, and it needs almost no additional florals to read as a finished ceremony.
The Ballrooms. Indoors, the hotel's event spaces give a reception real formality and scale, with enough room for a large floral installation to anchor the space the way Adam and Laura's did. It is a strong option if your date lands somewhere the coastal evening cools off fast.
The films, so far
We have made two films here so far: Adam & Laura, a bluff ceremony under a floral chuppah followed by a reception built around one enormous floral installation; and Tony & Katherine, whose portraits used the full drop from the lawn down to the beach and the coastline running south behind them.
Filming here
A Dana Point wedding lives or dies on the marine layer. Morning fog is common along this stretch of coast, and it usually burns off by early afternoon, so a ceremony timed for late afternoon or early evening gives you the best odds of clear light over the water without the fog risk of an earlier slot.

What is the best time of day for a ceremony here?+
Late afternoon into early evening. The bluff lawn faces open water, so the light stays soft most of the day and turns genuinely spectacular in the last hour before sunset, which is when we plan to be filming the ceremony or portraits.
Do you travel to Dana Point for weddings?+
Yes. We are a Los Angeles based studio and film across the coast from Santa Barbara down through Orange County and San Diego, so Dana Point is well within range.
Do you film in the fog if the marine layer hasn't cleared?+
We do, and it can look beautiful on camera, soft and diffused rather than harsh. If a clear ceremony matters to you, though, a later timeline gives the fog more time to burn off before you walk down the aisle.

The Ritz-Carlton publishes square footage and capacity for every room and lawn, which makes this one of the easier venues in Orange County to plan against. Sixty seven thousand square feet of event space across twenty rooms, and the two things that matter most to a film are which lawn you take and how far it sits from your reception.
- The Ritz-Carlton Ballroom
- Nine thousand two hundred and forty square feet. Seven hundred seated, nine hundred for a standing reception. The largest indoor room.
- The Bluff
- Four thousand eight hundred and fifty square feet, up to five hundred and fifty guests. The ceremony site people book this resort for, and the one with the ocean behind you rather than beside you.
- Dana Lawn
- Sixteen thousand square feet, up to seven hundred. Nothing else outdoors here comes close to it.
- Pacific Promenade Ballroom
- Four thousand two hundred and sixty-four square feet. Three hundred and thirty seated, five hundred and forty standing.
- Pacific Promenade Lawn
- Three thousand square feet, up to two hundred and seventy five.
- The Pavilion
- Three thousand nine hundred square feet. Two hundred and fifty seated, three hundred and fifty standing.
- The Terrace Salon
- Three thousand five hundred square feet. One hundred and eighty seated, two hundred standing.
- Monarch Bay Sunset Terrace
- One thousand six hundred square feet, seventy four for a reception. The smallest of the ocean facing spaces.
- The Plaza
- One thousand two hundred and twenty-two square feet, seventy either way.
- Food and beverage
- Roughly two hundred and fifty a head at lunch. Dinner runs from two hundred and fifty to three hundred and seventy five, and the service charge and the tax both sit on top of that. 2026 rate
