Notes on the light
Terranea sits directly on the bluffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, oceanfront on one side and Mediterranean-style architecture on the other. The cliffside ceremony lawns look straight out at open water, and the resort's warm stucco and arched walkways hold golden light beautifully as the afternoon turns to evening.
The spaces, and how they film
The Bluff Lawns. Ceremony space right at the cliff's edge, ocean on one side and the resort's Spanish-style architecture on the other, one of the most dramatic wide shots on the Southern California coast.
The Arched Courtyards. Palm-lined walkways and curved archways give the property a warm, resort-Mediterranean feel that photographs and films distinctly from a typical hotel ballroom.
The film, so far
We have made one film here so far: Anthony & Sloane, vows on the bluffs followed by a reception under the property's Spanish arches.
Filming here
Like most Palos Verdes Peninsula venues, Terranea can catch marine layer in the morning that clears by early afternoon. We plan ceremony timing for after that clears, and use the last hour before sunset for portraits along the bluffs, when the light over the water turns genuinely spectacular.
Have you filmed a wedding at Terranea Resort before?+
Yes. Anthony and Sloane's wedding film was made there, on the bluff lawns overlooking the Pacific, and you can watch it on this page.
Does the marine layer affect ceremony timing here?+
It can in the morning. Like most coastal Palos Verdes venues, the fog usually clears by early-to-mid afternoon, so we recommend a ceremony time after that window for the clearest light.
Do you travel to the Palos Verdes Peninsula for weddings?+
Yes, it's well within our regular Los Angeles area range.
What's the best spot on the property for portraits?+
The bluff lawns in the last hour before sunset. The light over open water at that time of day is some of the best coastal light we film anywhere.

Planning notes, and the six hours
Checked July 2026
Terranea is priced as a resort rather than as a venue. The rental is the small number. The food and beverage minimum is the one that decides your budget, and it is the figure least often quoted to couples up front.
- The sites
- Eight are listed on the resort’s wedding pages, though its meetings side lists many more. Catalina Point, Ocean Lawn and The Meadows are open ground. The Marineland and Catalina ballrooms are enclosed. The Point Lawn and Terrace, Catalina Lawn and Terrace and the Palos Verdes Grand Ballroom and Terrace each pair a room with its own outdoor space, which is what makes them workable in June gloom.
- Capacity
- Catalina Point to two hundred. Ocean Lawn to three hundred and fifty. The Point Lawn and Terrace to four hundred. Catalina Lawn and Terrace to six hundred. Marineland to six hundred and forty. The Meadows to seven hundred. The Palos Verdes Grand Ballroom is quoted at two thousand four hundred, but that is the ballroom combined with its thirteen thousand square foot terrace. The ballroom on its own is listed at a thousand. Check which one your quote covers.
- Rental
- Listings put a reception between five and twenty thousand dollars, covering six hours of event time before setup and breakdown. A ceremony setup is quoted separately at ten to eighteen thousand when it is booked alongside a reception. 2026 listings
- The number that matters
- The food and beverage minimum, and sources disagree sharply. One marketplace puts it between fifty-five and eighty thousand dollars with rental of seven to fifteen thousand on top. A couple reporting on a Saturday cites ninety thousand plus a seven thousand room rental. Treat the spread as real and get the figure for your own date in writing.
- On top of that
- Third party listings cite a twenty-six percent service charge. Sales tax in Rancho Palos Verdes is nine and three quarter percent, and California taxes the mandatory service charge as well as the food, so on a sixty thousand dollar minimum the two together add roughly twenty-three thousand before a single upgrade.
- End time
- Not published. The six hour reception window is the constraint we plan against, and it is worth pinning down early because it sets everything else.
- What six hours means for the film
- The property sits on Long Point, out on the Palos Verdes peninsula with open water on three sides. Several terraces face west into the sunset and that is the whole reason to film here. Six hours is the budget, so the portrait window gets protected first and everything else is built around it. If dinner service runs long and takes that hour, what is left is a ballroom, and you did not come to Terranea for a ballroom.
Spaces and capacities as published by Terranea Resort. Rental, minimum and service charge figures are drawn from marketplace listings and couple reports read in July 2026, not from the resort, and they disagree with each other. The sales tax rate is the current Rancho Palos Verdes rate. Checked July 2026. Confirm every number with Terranea before you plan around it.
