A mountaintop above Malibu, olive trees moving in the afternoon wind, and a ceremony timed so the vows landed as the light turned.
The way it felt.
Jacob and Malia married at Cielo Farms in November, when the Malibu hills have gone gold and the afternoon light drops earlier and softer than it does in summer.
We shot it the way we shoot every day up there. Close for the vows and the speeches, wide for the ridgeline, and out of the way for everything in between. The film runs a little over five minutes and carries their own voices through it.
On Cielo Farms.
Cielo Farms is a working olive farm on a ridge above Malibu, reached by a narrow road that climbs the whole way up. The altitude is the thing to plan around. Wind picks up across the open ground in the late afternoon, which matters for ceremony audio, and the sun drops behind the ridgeline earlier than the published sunset time, so the usable golden window is shorter here than the forecast suggests. We scout the ceremony position against that, and we bring our own audio redundancy for the vows.
