01The Day

Inland gold.

Josh and Jade were married in Temecula in December, out in the dry open ground east of the coast where the grass has already gone gold and the hills sit low and pale behind everything.

Theirs runs over eleven minutes, which makes it the longest film on this site by some distance. Some days earn the extra time and this was one of them.

02Filming at Temecula

Notes on the light.

Temecula is far enough inland that it behaves nothing like the coastal venues an hour west. The marine layer never reaches it, so mornings are clear rather than gray, and the light through the middle of the day is harder and more contrasted than anything on the coast. By December the ground has gone completely gold, which is unflattering to nobody and photographs far better than the green it briefly turns in spring. The thing to plan for is temperature swing: it can be warm at four and genuinely cold by eight.
