Dave & Alex
The estate, and the wild country around it. Press play, sound on.

The way it felt.
This is our third film at Hummingbird Nest Ranch, and Dave and Alex used the part of it we love most: not the manicured lawns but the wild edges, where the prickly pear runs up against the boulders and the hills go gold behind everything.
It had an easy, unhurried warmth to it, and the estate gave the day room to breathe. We filmed it patiently, chasing the light up the ridgeline, and let the country around the villa do the talking.
On Hummingbird Nest Ranch.
Hummingbird Nest Ranch is a 124-acre estate in the Santa Susana Mountains, about forty minutes north of Los Angeles, with a 1920s Spanish Colonial villa at the top of it. Most of what makes it film well is the land: olive groves, bougainvillea against white stucco, and beyond the manicured parts, real chaparral country with prickly pear, sandstone boulders and hills that turn gold in the last hour. Because the estate hosts one wedding at a time, the day never feels crowded. We have now made three films here, so we know exactly where the light lands at each hour.
