Timothy and Amber were married in Catalina Island's harbor town of Avalon, twenty-two miles off the Southern California coast. The frame here is theirs: a dip kiss at the water's edge, sand underfoot, the tiled waterfront buildings stacked behind them. The harbor front does the work behind them. Everything on this island arrives by boat.

Notes on filming Catalina.
Catalina is a boat ride, not a drive. Fast ferries run out of Long Beach, San Pedro, Dana Point and Newport Beach in a little over an hour, and once you land there are no car rentals: full-size vehicles are permit-only, and everyone else moves by golf cart or on foot. Avalon is under three square miles, so that works, but it means you carry your kit all day and plan the walk between locations. The town sits in a valley with hills on both sides, and the light leaves the waterfront early while the ridge above is still bright. Work the sand and the harbor front while you have them. The Casino rises the equivalent of twelve stories at the end of the bay, sea on three sides, and it lands in almost every wide you shoot.
Do you film weddings on Catalina Island?
Yes. Timothy and Amber's film was made in Avalon, and we would go back. The thing worth knowing about Catalina is that the crossing shapes the whole day: the ferry runs a little over an hour each way, and the timetable sets your start and your finish before anything else does. It also means almost no cars, so coverage is made on foot or by cart, which is a quieter way to shoot than it sounds. We plan around the boats and the light, and we tell you early what that costs you in hours.
How much does a wedding videographer cost?

When do we get our wedding film?
About 8 to 12 weeks for the full film. The Portrait and The Legacy also include a shorter teaser, delivered sooner, so you have something to share while the main edit is still running.
Will we notice you during the day?
Barely. We film the day as it happens rather than staging it, staying close but out of the way. Most couples tell us afterwards that they forgot anyone was filming.
