Nima and Donya were married at Calamigos Ranch, in the redwood grove, where the trees are tall enough that the sun only reaches the ground in patches.
Their film runs four minutes. It is one of the tighter cuts in the archive and it holds to the grove for most of its length.
Notes on the place.
The redwood sites at Calamigos are the darkest ground on the property and the most forgiving for skin, because the canopy diffuses everything before it lands. The problem is dynamic range: the sky between the trunks is several stops brighter than the faces underneath. We expose for the couple and let the gaps blow, rather than protecting the highlights and leaving everyone muddy, which is the mistake that makes grove footage look flat.
